An agnostic theist, here. I was watching a video where an ISKCON devotee was seated in front of a camera. While her tone was appreciably confident as she spoke, whatever she said left me confused. She said that some days ago, in L.A., Golden Globes Award was hosted, and that time, there were four options or so, first was an actress or something, second was Moms, and third was God. While the actress won by 7 votes (I dont exactly remember, pardon), Moms won by 3 votes and God got zero votes. Hence, according to that devotee, God punished the Godless town of L.A. by giving that fire disaster.
I am seriously astounded by whatever she claimed, because as I know, there are millions of atheists existing in this world, but God has not done anything to them. And those atheists are literally big personalities like Javed Akhtar (Indian lyricist), Bhagat Singh (freedom fighter), Anupam Roy (a popular figure in Bengali cinema known as a vocalist and as a composer), etc. So that means they are simply blessed based on their actions. And even if God were this dictator, I have heard of stories where God forgives an individual just because he worships his parents, who are actually known as earth-bound representations of God. In fact, a story based on the race between Lord Ganesha and his brother Karthikeya is a huge example of it. Also, in Christianity, we have heard in Jesus' parable Prodigal Son about how sinning against parents is equivalent to sinning against God. Funnily enough, ISKCON also says that we cannot favor back the pain that our mothers suffered for 9 months (them saying chanting Hare Krishna mahamantra to favor it back is a different tale so I wont talk about it, because my focus is stringently on why LA fire is not exactly a punishment, but a disaster caused by anthropogenic actions or climate changes.)
