Best macOS for a 2012 MacBook Pro: Video Editing, VFX, and Audio Production?

I own a MacBook Pro 2012 and would like advice on the best macOS version to run on it. I'll be using it for video editing with Final Cut Pro, VFX work in After Effects, and audio production in Logic Pro X. I understand its age and limitations, aiming to stick to 1080p for smoother performance.

Specs:

  • 16GB RAM
  • i7 processor
  • NVIDIA GT 650M 512 MB
  • HD Graphics 4000
  • SSD 240GB + HDD 500GB

I’ve purchased my Apple apps officially, so older macOS versions aren’t a problem as I can access them through my purchases. However, for Adobe apps, even though I have a subscription, they no longer offer support for older versions. That said, I could easily replace After Effects with Apple Motion since I own it as well.

Two years ago, I was using a 2009 MacBook Pro that couldn’t handle video editing at all but worked surprisingly well for audio production. For three years, it ran Logic Pro X very smoothly. I had used a patcher to install macOS High Sierra, which performed better than the officially supported El Capitan at the time. For video editing, I relied on a Hackintosh back then.

Now that I have this 2012 MacBook Pro, I’m uncertain about the best macOS version for it. It natively supports versions from 10.7 to 10.15, and I’ve seen many people successfully running more recent versions using OpenCore Legacy Patcher.

Given these options, I’m unsure which macOS version would provide the best balance for my activities on this MacBook Pro. What would you recommend for video editing, VFX, and audio production with these specs?
